A “French Drain” is an underground drainage system that is designed for the purpose of transporting excess water away from your buildings and decorative vegetation into a predetermined permeable area. In soils that demonstrate large amounts of water change, a “French Drain” can alleviate the hydraulic build-up of moisture and offer a consistent retention that eliminates shrink/swell or over fluidity in the soils that are present. That balancing of the contained waters protects the foundations of the structures from highly hydro-sensitive soils.
An on site inspection of the “lay of the land” will be performed to determine if your property is in drainage duress. Secure Foundation Systems, Inc. will plot out a visual overview and make sure there are no disruptive measures to overcome in the process.
Once the trench is dug to specification, a nondegradable drainpipe or “sock drain” is laid in place. The trench is then filled with gravel to the top 12 inches below grade, then filled with dirt. Sod is then replaced and irrigated to encourage root growth.

When neighboring properties have a higher elevation, there is often an excessive amount of moisture that may be over bearing for the type of soil under the surface of your property. An over abundance of moisture in the upper layers of soil, generally indicated by pooling or puddling, could cause structural foundation compromise, settling of pool and deck areas, patios, and driveways.
These evidences will alert you to the need of having Secure Foundation Systems, Inc. install a “French Drain” system to handle your excess water problems.
